Assignment 27A - Reading Reflection No. 3
1) You read about an entrepreneur: Coco Chanel
· What surprised you the
most?
- The point that surprised me the
most while reading this novel was Coco’s involvement with Nazis during
World War II. I was also very surprised with her high usage of drugs.
· What about the
entrepreneur did you most admire?
- The things that I admire the most
about Coco Chanel is her power to change the way of fashion and her power
to empower women through fashion.
· What about the
entrepreneur did you least admire?
- The thing that I least admired
about Coco Chanel was her drug problems. Having a lot of money and power
usually turns people to bad influences such as drugs and alcohol.
· Did the entrepreneur
encounter adversity and failure? If so, what did they do about it?
- Coco Chanel overcame the loss of
her ex-lover. She was extremely attached to him and their relationship,
so having to overcome such a large loss was extremely hard for her.
2) What competencies did you notice that the entrepreneur
exhibited?
- When Coco was
a child, her father sent her and her two siblings to a convent after her mother
died. During her time at the convent is when she learned how to sew and really
grew an interest in fashion.
3) Identify at least one part of the reading that was confusing
to you.
- One part of
the reading that I found to be confusing was when Coco was exploring her
feelings for other women. I found this part to be confusing because I never
knew that Coco Chanel was bisexual and explored relations with people from both
the opposite sex and the same sex.
4) If you were able to ask two questions to the
entrepreneur, what would you ask? Why?
- If I were
able to ask Coco Chanel questions, the first question I would ask her is what
her feelings for the current fashion world are. I would ask her this question
to connect with her on a personal level. The second question I would ask is
what major change you would make at any point in your life. Asking this
question would allow her to think of all of the good and bad times of her life
and change something for the better.
5) For fun: what do you think the entrepreneur's opinion was of
hard work? Do you share that opinion?
- I believe
that Coco Chanel’s opinion of hard work was through thoughtfulness and
dedication. Without those two key factors, she would have never become the
infamous Coco Chanel. I believe that I also share the same opinion of hard work
because you need to be able to put yourself in the right mindset to work hard
and find true dedication.
Alexandra,
ReplyDeleteI honestly have never heard of the entrepreneur that you wrote about in this work, but after reading your work I am very intrigued by how Coco Chanel lived her life and how she epitomized it doesn't matter where you come in order to be successful.
Alexandra,
ReplyDeleteI too read this book and saw the ups and downs of what it meant to be a successful women in those days. How interests formed in those days and how at times what seems like a downfall actually inspires you to move forward with your product and designs!
