Assignment 3A - My Entrepreneurship Story

My Entrepreneurship Story

Growing up, my family has owned multiple sole-proprietor businesses. My parents purchased a small business from a man who wanted to retire. The business is selling air filters to hospitals, universities, and many more. When we first purchased the company, it was nothing. No customers, no contracts, no nothing. The company didn’t even have an office space. My father mostly ran the company by himself. He would spend 12-hour days in our spare bedroom in our house to find customers and sell them our air filters. The business finally picked up almost two years later. We had to find an office space to rent so we could hire more employees. We also rented a warehouse to store all of the air filters that we would personally install. At one point, we were so busy that we had at least 20 employees on our pay roll. Sometimes my dad would have to travel to locations across the United States to meet with companies to sell our product. It was a difficult time. But luckily, it generated a lot of income and created great business connections with major companies.

My aunt is a hairdresser and has been for over 35 years. Overtime, the prices of renting chairs at other salons were very pricy. Eventually, she created her own company and opened her own salon. The salon was great because it was an all-cash business. Eventually, after almost 10 years, she decided to sell the business and the building that she purchased to another person because she is near the retirement age.

Overall, my family has had great entrepreneurial success. I hope to learn some of their great ideas and make something of my own one day.

I enrolled in ENT3003 because it is a required class for my Innovation minor. Overall, I hope to think more like an entrepreneur by the end of this class. I also hope to create my own idea and become an entrepreneur one day.
